Hungarian "Ikarus" buses will be produced in Azerbaijan

#global

To begin with, 50 machines will be shipped to Baku

The legendary Hungarian buses "Ikarus" are returning to Azerbaijan in a completely new form with modern equipment. The General Director of Ikarus Group, Roland Feher, announced that his company has won a tender for the supply of buses to the country. The deliveries of the first 50 Ikarus buses on an electric platform have already been agreed upon.

"I hope that within a year, the first buses will arrive in Baku, and in the future, their deliveries will increase. In three years, a factory with a capacity of 600 buses per year will be built in Azerbaijan for the assembly of 'Ikarus.' We will bring 8.5-meter and 12-meter electric buses with zero emissions to Azerbaijan. Our electric buses will also contribute to the protection of Azerbaijan's ecology and the fight against climate change," he said.

Before 1991, buses of this brand comprised up to 90% of the Baku fleet. By the end of the 1980s, "Ikarus" became the main mode of public transportation in most Soviet cities, with a total of 200,000 diesel buses delivered to the union republics.
